FAQ

Plain definitions

What the numbers on this page mean and where the medians come from.

What is LTV:CAC?

How much a paying user brings back for every dollar it cost to acquire. Here it is the net revenue a payer generates in the first 12 months divided by your cost per paying user, so 1.5× means each payer returns one and a half times its acquisition cost within a year.

What counts as CAC here?

Your acquisition cost per install, per trial or per paying user — whichever you know. The calculator converts between them with your funnel rates, so the ratio does not depend on the unit you pick. Use a fully loaded figure (ads plus creative, agency and tooling) if you want the strict version.

What is payback?

The month in which the cumulative net revenue from one install reaches what that install cost. The curve runs 36 months and bills each plan on its own cadence, so annual plans arrive as steps and a 30-day trial delays the first charge by a month.

Why a 12-month window?

A benchmark only means something if everyone measures the same window. Published category medians are 12-month figures, so the headline LTV is capped at the first year for every plan. The 36-month projection is shown separately and is not compared with anything.

Why net of fees and refunds?

Store fees and refunds never reach your bank account. Every charge is reduced by the fee preset you chose and by the refund rate, which is prefilled with your category’s refunded share of revenue and editable under Advanced.

Where do the benchmarks come from?

Adapty’s State of In-App Subscriptions 2026 report (16,000+ apps), global figures: install-to-trial and trial-to-paid rates, retention at day 33, 99, 190 and 380, refund shares and first-year revenue per payer, per app category. Apps with a free trial are compared with trial cohorts, hard paywalls with the no-trial cohorts. Where a category lacks a number, the all-apps figure is used and the assumptions box says so.

Is my data stored?

No. Everything is computed in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere unless you use the contact form. The share link encodes your inputs in the URL, so anyone you send it to sees the same results — and nothing else.
